Girl’s Easter Bonnets
For centuries, mothers have been making floral wreaths and Spring bonnets for their daughters. Usually the wreaths were made of whichever flowers were in bloom and were lucky to last through the day. An Easter bonnet has become so much a part of our Easter traditions in the USA that a movie musical was made about it.
You may not have a big Easter parade on your agenda this year, but you can surprise all the females in your family, including the smallest, with a bright Easter bonnet. And you can do it very inexpensively. If you don’t insist on going to the hat department of the most exclusive store in town, you can have an Easter bonnet for your favorite young lady for just $2 to $3 dollars apiece.
How? Well, almost every town of any size has a dollar store now, and they are stocked-up with pretty, lacy little hats imported from China that they sell for just one dollar. In the same stores, they sell artificial flowers and ribbons for a dollar apiece. It’s a simple matter to hot glue some spring flowers to the brim of the hat, along with some ribbon streamers. Or, if you prefer, simply braid a couple of floral stems together and tie with a ribbon for an inexpensive floral Easter wreath. That’s an easy way to color-coordinate to her dress, and oh-so-traditional!
Girl’s Easter Dresses
As a child I was always excited to go shopping with my mother for a new dress and bonnet for Easter. We always went to church as a family then got together with cousins and aunts and uncles for a big family get-together. That was the perfect time to show-off my new hat, dress and shoes. Back when I was a girl, Easter also meant that I got shiny new shoes, lacy socks, and fresh white gloves. Yes, gloves.
Times have changed but the traditions of Spring and Easter are still with us, usually minus the gloves. Young girls have worn new frocks for Spring and Easter in every home that could afford it. Prices are going up and up and up on so many things, but fortunately, smart shoppers find sales.
Walmart and Target are just two stores that are offering Easter dresses at rock-bottom sale prices. Possibly beause Easter is coming so early this year, stores are already starting to take drastic discounts on beautiful spring dresses and accessories. You won’t have to break the bank to see your little Sweetheart all dolled-up for Easter this year.
